Platform:

My platform is simple; fiscal responsibility, transparency, community involvement, an affordable tax rate and providing emergency services to the residents of Sandy Oaks.

What specifically would you like to accomplish in the first year?

Within the first year, I hope to develop a city charter that is acceptable to the community. I would like to build cohesiveness between city leaders and citizens and fulfill my obligation as an Alderman to the community.

What are the first three ordinances you would like to pass (besides those that first set up the municipality)?

There are many things I hope to see get done within the first year, these include ordinances to address lot cleanliness, animal control and noise. I’ve had the opportunity to speak with several members of the community and these seem to be the biggest complaints. We hope to enforce the ordinances so that junk cars, loose animals and noise late at night will no longer be an issue.

What do you think is the single most important issue to deal with in the community?

To me, the single most important issue is property taxes. I will work with the newly elected council to create a budget that a minimal tax base can support.

What are your ideas on how the city can develop a dedicated revenue stream to best benefit Sandy Oaks?

Unfortunately, property taxes will be the biggest contribution to revenue until applications for available grants can be submitted. We will need to look closely at what is available and maximize those resources. While there are many available, we have to compete with the rest of the cities within the county to get them. Planning and proposal writing will play a major part in this.

How, as an alderman in the future, will you reach everyone in the city of Sandy Oaks to hear their input?

We as council members, and more importantly, public servants, will need to be accessible to the community. This can be achieved by quarterly new letters, an internet site, newspaper columns, community events and most importantly, open meetings.

What qualifies you to have the power to run a city of 3,800 people?

The values that I hold as a civil servant, father, husband and friend are what qualify my involvement with my community. Honesty, integrity, trust, commitment and respect are all part of my daily life. I believe those values are imperative to effectively represent this diverse community. We all need to be treated fairly. One of the main reasons I decided to run for this office was my concern for property taxes and the weight they will place on all of us here in this new city. I will not ask any Sandy Oaks resident to endure a tax burden that I would not impose on myself.

Well said. I would be proud to serve with you and enjoy campaigning with both yourself and Micki Ball.
It truly has been an eye opener meeting our neighbors and win or loose we know we will need to continue to offer our services even if just as a neighbor.
