City Council Wants Maximum Sales Tax, Minimum VIA

At its very first meeting, the Sandy Oaks City Council voted in favor of creating 3 propositions for a public vote on new sales taxes.  Micki Ball was the only Alderman who voted against all of the proposed propositions.

The first proposition is a 1/2% sales tax for street maintenance.  The second proposition is for a 1% sales tax for a general use fund.  The third proposition is for an additional 1/2% for a general use fund.

All 3 propositions, if approved by voters, will mean an increase in the overall sales tax that people pay within the City of Sandy Oaks.  The tax will be in addition to the current sales tax collected by the State of Texas.

Removal From VIA

The City Council also voted 3:2 in favor of having a vote for residents to decide on keeping the VIA tax that they are already paying.  Alderman Micki Ball and Alderman David Tremblay voted against the measure.

The election for the sales tax and VIA tax will be held November 4, 2014.  The election will cost the City of Sandy Oaks money and place the city into debt.
