The Sandy Oaks City Council has placed 4 items on the ballot in this Fall’s election.
New Sales Taxes
The first 3 are proposed sales taxes. When the City Council voted to have the election for sales taxes all Aldermen except for Micki Ball were in favor of the new tax. If approved, the sales taxes will be imposed on businesses that operate within the city and will be in addition to the current State and County sales taxes.
The sales taxes are split into 3 different groups:
- 1/2% sales tax for street maintenance
- 1% sales tax for general purposes
- 1/2% sales tax also for general purposes
VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority
Also on the ballot is a vote on whether or not to keep the sales tax for the VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority.
Mayor Jim Clement pushed for the vote in the hopes of getting rid of the cost of VIA. Aldermen Gay, Ortega, and Tomasini voted in favor of the election.
Voting Days
Early voting starts October 20th and runs till October 31st.
