I’ve attended a number of meetings, now, both before and after the vote for incorporation. In those meetings I’ve heard a lot of anger, and a lot of complaints about our community and its homeowner’s association. The anger I understand…and the complaints could all have been addressed by a strong and inclusive association. What happened? The folks in charge of the homeowner’s association, the WPPOA, stayed insular, worked almost in secret for 2 plus years, and we now have the city of Sandy Oaks. So, now we will be faced with increased property taxes, very little in the way of commerce to help keep them low, and still no real attempt to solve the problems facing us. Remember when we used to have Dump Days, community yard sales in the park, pot luck dinners, 4th of July parties, pool parties for the kids, etc.? I do. I also remember seeing all this go away along with the WPPOA running off good people who wanted to get involved. Now those same WPPOA members have pushed this city on us, with a tragicially low voter turn out and want to run the city council, and, hence, our taxes. So, I ask…….who will you vote for? The very people who got us into this mess, or three people who responded to keep the elections open? I know how I will vote!
I will always keep my neighbors informed and involved.
Cathleen
