Those residing in Waterwood are now part of the City of Sandy Oaks.
This also includes some residents living on the roads of Priest, Mathis, and Star Oaks Dr.
How Did This Happen?
Members of the Waterwood POA formed a group called the “Committee to Incorporate Sandy Oaks” also known as CISO. This was spearheaded by Jim Clement and Pedro Orduno, although there may have been others heavily involved as well.
CISO later evolved into the Sandy Oaks Political Action Committee – SOPAC
Both Clement and Orduno worked for 3 years to bring a vote to the community for incorporation (to become a city).
In November of 2013, San Antonio denied a request for 4 square miles of land within their ETJ to be released for the proposed boundary of a possible Sandy Oaks. Instead 2.4 square miles was released.
On April 24,2014, SOPAC/CISO/POA hosted a meeting at the Waterwood clubhouse to tell about the vote for incorporation.
On May 10, 2014, the vote was held with only 126 people voting for a population of 3,800. 96 people voted “For” and 32 voted “Against.”
What Has Happened Since The Vote?
The deadline to submit paperwork to run for office has passed.
Only 1 person, Jim Clement, is running for Mayor.
