Alderman Place 2

Texas Local Government Code requires that alderman positions be up for election every 2 years.  After the election of the first City Council of Sandy Oaks, Aldermen were randomly assigned Place numbers on August 28, 2014.  It was then decided that Alderman Place 2 would be up for election on even numbered years, which meant that the position would be filled for 2 years before itss next election.

Election for Alderman place 2 is held in the November General Election on even years.

Powers

An alderman may submit an item to be on a Council meeting agenda if there is a 2nd alderman who agrees.  The 5 aldermen are the only members of the City Council who can vote in a meeting unless there is a tie.
