Alderman Place 1

Texas Local Government Code requires that alderman positions be up for election every 2 years.  After the election of the first City Council of Sandy Oaks, Aldermen were randomly assigned Place numbers on August 28, 2014.  It was then decided that Alderman Place 1 would be up for election on odd numbered years, which meant that the position would only be filled for 1 year before it’s next election.

Election for Alderman place 1 is held in the November General Election on odd years.

Powers

An alderman may submit an item to be on a Council meeting agenda if there is a 2nd alderman who agrees.  The 5 aldermen are the only members of the City Council who can vote in a meeting unless there is a tie.

David Tremblay was assigned the position of Alderman Place 1.  He ran for reelection in 2015 with no opposition and kept the seat without needing to be voted in.
